Kaminna Allen

Kaminna Allen was a Women's Volleyball player at Genesee Community College. Kaminna was a graduate at East High School and a freshman player for the 1997 Lady Cougar Volleyball Team. She passed away of a heart disorder while playing in the Cougar Classic, which has been renamed in honor of her memory.

WEVA donates $250 to the scholarship fund annually. WEVA also blocks off the weekend to prevent tournament competition with this event.

All proceeds from the volleyball tournament and contributions on her behalf provide a full scholarship award each year. Former and current scholarship award winners include: Sarah Dombrowski, Stacy Koslosky, and Tabatha Chastang.

The amount awarded will be limited to a one-half tuition waiver, up to 75% of the available funds in a given year. The criteria for the award have been established to honor the memory of Kamina Allen. Thus, it is appropriate that the recipient be an outstanding girls high school volleyball player (All Region, All Conference, etc.), and citizen of the school and community. However, it is not be required to participate on the GCC Women's volleyball team. A committee will evaluate the applications that are submitted for this award each year. None of the committee members may be affiliated with the athletic program and there can be no GCC athletic influence as who receives this award. Coaches may encourage students they are recruiting to apply for the award, use them as a reference, and even in some cases serve as a person providing a reference. However, committee members should not be influenced by this and may not approach the head coach or any member of the athletic department for recommendations as to who should receive this award.

Contributions may also be made to this event in the form of advertising through the purchase of a tax deductible ad or tournament sponsorship, which affords your company top billing throughout the two day tournament, front cover spotlight, and a full page advertisement in the tournament program. The ads that are available are 1/4 page for $25, 1/2 page for $50, full page for $100 and tournament sponsor for $250. Please complete the form and return it to Roger Majeski.
