WEVA was excited to field a women's team at the 2015 PVL Championships in Detroit, Michigan over Memorial Day weekend. This is the fourth year that WEVA has fielded a team.

A great experience for the region with some board members present watching the matches along with some family members from the team. Also, many supporters from WEVA watched the live streamed matches. A great week with some awesome volleyball throughout the event. Thanks to the WEVA board and all the sponsors that made the WEVA PVL team possible for 2015!

2014 Pvl Champions

The USA Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is a women's grass roots professional league that started in 2012 (www.usapvl.com/index.html). It is comprised of teams within the forty regional volleyball associations across the United States. The USA PVL is sanctioned by USA Volleyball and offers tournament play and a league Championship event each year. The goal of the PVL is to make this a long term opportunity for women in the United States to compete nationally each year at a professional level. Ultimately, offering a competitive opportunity to the European Professional Volleyball circuit. In 2012, the PVL offered a league championship event at the USA Open National Championships in Salt Lake City, UT. Twelve teams competed in its inaugural year. Western Empire fielded one of those twelve teams. In 2013, the PVL commenced offering tournament play for the teams in various locations across the United State. WEVA proudly fielded another team in the league championship event in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2014, the WEVA Women's PVL team won the championships in Phoenix, AZ, defeating Florida Wave 3-0 after going undefeated in Pool Play.

This year the Western Empire team boasts a roster of highly decorated former NCAA athletes and current professional athletes that are playing abroad. The roster is comprised of players that include:

Western Empire PVL team ARE THE Champions of the 2014 Women's PVL League Championships hosted in Phoenix Arizona.

Additionally, the Chesapeake Rising Tide team had a past WEVA VFX junior player Mary Cushman on the roster for the Chesapeake's regional team. The team finished 9th out of 14 teams winning the Bronze division. Overall 1-5 in pool play, winning the challenge match to get to the Bronze division and then won out in bronze beating Dream Team NCVA in the semi-finals and Puget Sound in the finals.

Alyssa D’Errico, Monique Mead, Sabel Moffett, Lauren VanOrden, and Tara Mueller will be hosting player and coaches clinics on July 14th (at the BNCC in Buffalo) and July 15th (at the Main Street Armory in Rochester) to give back to the region. The clinic will be comprised of on court training as well as a panel discussion of their experiences in their stellar collegiate and professional careers.
